Considered to be the most persevering and responsible of the twelve animal signs under the Chinese astrological system, Chinese astrologers say the Year of the Ox will influence triathletes to become more hard-working. To say that the folks on the Island of Hainan, China, were taken aback when they saw Ironman athletes (including Belinda Granger, seen here being interviewed at the finish line) go flying by on their bikes last year would be a bit of an understatement. "We may as well have been martians landing from outer space," says race director Murphy Reinschreiber. "The bike course goes through some old, rural villages in an agricultural area.
